An American in Manchuria
24 January 2005
Blog is setup!
Well... my blog is registered and setup! This is my test posting.
I depart for Changchun on 13 February and arrive on 15 February, after having a 24-hour lay-over in Beijing.
I picked up a book called Cowboys and Dragons, by Charles Lee, PhD (ISBN 0793160294), aimed at people doing East-West business, but it has good applications for living in China and understanding how the culture functions. It comes from a perspective of a Chinese individual who grew up in China and has lived in America since completing his undergrad. He brings forth personal, first-hand accounts of learning experiences and how to best cross-reference each culture in varying situations. I want to use it as reading material for my students. I am going to see if it is readily-available in China and published in Chinese.
